Most companies running NetSuite have traditionally been able to map their pricing structure into the NetSuite structure — price levels on item records, quantity schedules for volume breaks, a price level on the customer record, and customer-specific item prices where a negotiation warranted one. It works but can be limited in functionality or painful to maintain.
What it doesn’t do is change on its own. A customer’s price level stays the same until someone revises it. A seasonal program requires one mass update to start and another to end. When input costs change frequently, repricing can become a significant project. The pricing may be accurate, but keeping it accurate takes manual effort.
That’s the gap that Advanced Pricing addresses. It’s off by default — Setup > Company > Enable Features > Transactions, Sales section — and it adds capability rather than replacing what you have.
Price rules live in Lists > Accounting > Price Rules and automatically apply a price level to sales transactions based on criteria like customer, item, or date range. Click Select Dates on a rule, and you get a start and end date, so a program window opens and closes without anyone touching a record.
Rules can target customer groups rather than individual customers, which matters if you’ve been maintaining the same price level across dozens of accounts by hand.
Advanced Pricing adds a Cost+ pricing method at the price level, where you select a cost basis and set a markup or discount percentage.
Two sources of cost are available. Average Cost works where your costing is reliable — and a new Refresh Prices button on the item record updates those price levels when average cost changes. For items without standard costing or with volatile prices, Advanced Pricing adds a Cost for Pricing field where you set a custom cost directly. Price levels update automatically when changed.
Enabling the Advanced Pricing feature changes the Sales/Pricing subtab. A Price Rule column is added. The Default Discount % column is renamed Pricing Method and shows which levels use Average Cost or Cost for Pricing. The Cost for Pricing field and Refresh Prices button appear.
If your pricing setup has been running unchanged for a while, it’s probably worth a look. Meridian can help you evaluate the options and configure what fits your business.
