Meridian Minutes: What SuitePromotions Can Do

If you’re running sales, launching new products, or rewarding key accounts, SuitePromotions lets you build those offers directly in NetSuite. Promotions live on a single record that controls what the customer gets, who qualifies, where and when the offer is valid, and how often it can be used. Here’s an overview of what’s available.

Five types of promotion

Every promotion starts with what the discount applies to: items, the order, or shipping. NetSuite offers five promotion types, which can be configured to be automatically applied.

  • Item promotions: a percentage or dollar amount off specific items, applied as a line-level discount.
  • Fixed price item promotions: specific items offered at a set promotional price.
  • Order promotions: a percentage or dollar amount off at the order level, based on the order total or on items in the order.
  • Shipping promotions: discounts on certain shipping methods, based on the order total or on items in the order.
  • Free gift promotions: a specific item added to eligible orders automatically, at no charge.

Flexible discount options

Discounts can be a percentage, a flat amount, a fixed price, or a free item. If your account uses Multiple Currencies, flat-amount discounts can be set in each currency you use. For item promotions, the discount can apply to every eligible item or only to the cheapest or most expensive ones. You can also require a quantity to be bought at full price first, which supports “buy one, get one” style offers.

Control audience and eligibility

  • Customers: target a promotion to specific customers, such as rewarding your most valued accounts.
  • Sales channels: limit a promotion to specific websites or, with the Locations feature enabled, specific locations.
  • Dates: set start and end dates, so the promotion runs only during the window you choose.
  • Usage: allow unlimited use per customer or limit each customer to one use.

Coupon codes

Promotions can use multiple-use codes, which any number of customers can use any number of times, or single-use codes, where each code works once for one customer. Single-use codes let you give every recipient a unique code. You can import them from a CSV file or have NetSuite generate them from a pattern you define. They work on orders placed through your web store (SuiteCommerce) and on orders entered directly in NetSuite.

Built to work with your marketing

Single-use codes can be sent through NetSuite email campaigns, with a unique code inserted for each recipient. Coupon codes can also be passed to your web store through a link, so the code is applied automatically at checkout (SuiteCommerce). When a code is used on an order, the discount is applied and the revenue can be tracked on promotion reports.
